Assistant Principal's Corner

Mekia Henderson, MSE

Assistant Principal for Grades 3, 4, and 5

I am a proud Memphis, Tennessee native and graduate of Shelby County Schools (formerly Memphis City Schools), has dedicated over 20 years to the field of education. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary & Collaborative Education from The University of Alabama in Huntsville and later completed my Master of Science in Educational Leadership. I have obtained various certifications and endorsements to enhance my expertise, including Georgia Master Teacher certification, Coaching and Reading endorsements, Teacher Support Specialist/Mentor endorsement, and Instructional Design Development certification.
Throughout my career, I have served in multiple roles as an educator in Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) including classroom teacher, instructional coach, professional
development instructor, and assistant principal. I am passionate about empowering educators to
innovate and grow while maintaining high expectations for student achievement and their
well-being. My leadership extends beyond the classroom, including work with the Horizons
Atlanta affiliate at Atlanta Technical College's summer enrichment program, where I helped
foster positive behavior and success for both students and staff, encouraging a growth mindset and commitment to improved student outcomes.
Known for my strong communication skills, student-centered approach, and dedication to
professional development, I  am committed to creating a supportive, inclusive, and
dynamic school culture where every student can thrive. I firmly believes that building
relationships with the school community, being a reflective decision-maker, and respecting diversity are key to helping students succeed in the 21st century.
I am also an avid sports enthusiast, particularly in basketball, serving as a Georgia
Collegiate and GHSA Varsity Basketball Official and as chairwoman of my officials organization.
I often says, “Being an official really does give you the best seat in the house to watch and be a
part of the game.” I am married, and the mother of two young adults, both former CCPS high
school graduates: my son Donovan, a recent graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, and my
daughter D’Mari, a recent graduate of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University.
Regardless of my role in education, I am consistently returning to the core values:
character, conduct, and conversation are the instruments for creating positive, lasting change. I
am driven by a relentless pursuit to collaborate with and support future educators and beginning
teachers, helping them to make meaningful impacts through instructional excellence, restorative
practices, and equity in schools and communities. My goal is to inspire students to grow into
productive, contributing members of society.
As Assistant Principal at The Michelle Obama STEM Elementary Academy, I  will
build on the outstanding work of Principal Payton and the dedicated faculty and staff. I am
committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students by
working closely with teachers, staff, and families to foster a culture of care and respect each day.

Mrs. Henderson

Bonita Adams, EdD

Assistant Principal for Grades Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd

During my 25 plus year career as an educator, I have served students as both a teacher and an academic coach. As an academic coach, I facilitated professional learning experiences and as a teacher, I facilitated opportunities for student academic achievement. Although I have demonstrated to be an effective teacher in the classroom and have built capacity for the use of effective instructional strategies among many of my colleagues, I am still growing as an instructional leader. I want to “pay forward” the experiences I had as a teacher to the many innovative teachers I serve in our school. I encourage you to join me in supporting a culture of excellence by actively participating in your child's educational experience.

I look forward to meeting you and your family at MOST throughout the year! Please feel welcome to contact me with any praises, concerns, questions, or ideas via email at bonita.adams@clayton.k12.ga.us or by phone at 770-472-2441.

In partnership with you,
Dr. Bonita Adams
